Roadworks will be taking place on four major motorways in Cyprus, including the Lakatamia-Pera Chorio, Nicosia-Akaki, Ayia Napa-Larnaca, and Larnaca-Ayia Napa routes, as announced by the Department of Public Works on Thursday. These essential resurfacing and maintenance works are expected to cause some disruptions, with certain projects extending into December.

Roadworks: Limassol to Nicosia Resurfacing

Beginning on Thursday evening, resurfacing works will be conducted on the Limassol-Nicosia motorway. This project is set to commence at 9pm and will continue until 5.30am on Friday. During this period, all three lanes heading from Limassol to Nicosia will be closed to traffic, specifically from the exit for Latsia-Yeri up to the GSP roundabout.

Drivers heading from Limassol to Nicosia are advised to use the old Nicosia-Limassol road as a diversion, re-entering the motorway at the GSP roundabout. This temporary measure aims to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists while the resurfacing is underway.

Network Development Works on Larnaca-Paralimni Motorway

On Thursday morning, from 8.30am to 10.30am, a private telecommunications company will also be conducting network development works on the Larnaca-Paralimni motorway. This will involve the closure of a section of the fast lane from Larnaca Airport to the Rizoelia roundabout for approximately 300 metres, necessitating a diversion to the adjacent lane.

Cleaning and Excavation Works Scheduled

From Friday through Monday, cleaning operations will be taking place on the central lane of both the Lakatamia-Pera Chorio and Nicosia-Akaki motorways. Additionally, on Saturday night, from 10pm until Sunday at 6am, work will be carried out on the Nicosia-Akaki motorway, specifically from the intersection of Lefkotheou and Makedonitissis Avenues towards Akaki.

Further works are scheduled for Sunday night, when the Nicosia-Akaki motorway will again be affected from 10pm to 6am on Monday, specifically from the Akaki roundabout towards Nicosia. These cleaning and maintenance efforts are critical to ensuring the ongoing safety and functionality of the roadways.

Electronic Message Sign Installation

In a bid to improve traffic management, excavation works will also commence on the Ayia Napa-Larnaca motorway, starting Monday and continuing through Friday from 8.30am to 5pm. This project involves the installation of an electronic message sign approximately 3 kilometres before the Rizoelia roundabout. During this period, part of the road abutment will be closed for about 600 metres.

Ongoing Signage Works on Larnaca-Nicosia Motorway

From November 10 until December 11, periodic works will be carried out to remove, move, and reinstall signs on the Larnaca-Nicosia motorway. These works will occur from Monday to Thursday between 9.30am and 1.30pm, impacting the left lane of traffic locally for approximately 1 kilometre. Motorists will be redirected to the right lane during this time.

Additionally, from November 10 to 14, excavation work will be conducted on the Larnaca-Agia Napa motorway, 3 kilometres before the Ayia Napa exit. This will also include the closure of the abutment for a distance of approximately 600 metres.

Public Works Department’s Apology

The Department of Public Works has expressed apologies for the inevitable inconveniences these roadworks will cause, encouraging the public to exhibit patience and understanding. They urge all road users to comply with temporary road signs and follow the instructions provided by the police during this period of disruption.

As these roadworks progress, the Department will continue to provide updates to keep the public informed of any changes. Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel.
