Pervolia coastal: Relaxations for Certain Structures
While the illegal structures will face removal, some relaxations have been approved for specific constructions within the beach protection zone. Under Article 5A of the Beach Protection Law, the ministerial committee has permitted the addition of changing rooms, shelters, and a car park.
Additionally, a request from the Pervolia community board to build a small kiosk within the car park is also expected to gain approval, further enhancing the local amenities.
Project Timeline and Costs
Details about the development timeline were shared by the minister, who indicated that final construction and structural plans are currently underway, including studies for planting and irrigation. These plans are projected to be completed by the end of October 2025.
Once the preparatory work is finalised, the next steps will involve preparing tender documents to select a contractor. The tender process is estimated to commence in the first quarter of 2026, with construction anticipated to begin in June 2026. The Town Planning and Housing Department will oversee the contracting process.
Preliminary cost estimates for the project stand at €1.5 million, with two-thirds of this amount funded by the state and the remaining third sourced from the local authority through the Coastal Walkway Acquisition Special Fund. The construction phase is expected to span approximately 20 months.
Community Engagement and Public Consultation
On 30 May 2024, a public presentation regarding phase two of the coastal walkway project took place at the Pervolia community council amphitheatre. Local residents, along with representatives from the Larnaca district administration and the Dromolaxia-Meneou municipality, attended the session to discuss the project and share their insights.
During this presentation, feedback from both the municipality and local residents was collected and will be considered in the completion of the plans. Minister Ioannou emphasised the importance of ensuring equal treatment for all residents in the project design and evaluation process.
