A section of Strovolos avenue has reopened to traffic following a fire that disrupted the route on Monday evening. The stretch of road, located between the junction with Pavlos Mela street and the roundabout with Spyros Kyprianou avenue, was closed around 7pm due to the blaze, which occurred on the ground floor of a shop within a multi-storey building.

Emergency services responded swiftly, with Fire Service teams working diligently to extinguish the flames. A Fire Service spokesman, Andreas Kettis, noted that both the ground floor and mezzanine levels of the building were affected by the fire. “During the firefighting operation, we checked whether the basement was also impacted. Inside the building, there were electrical appliances and office equipment,” he explained.

The police were also on scene, assisting with traffic management and ensuring the safety of residents in a nearby apartment building. Fortunately, all staff members had evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.

As the fire was brought under control, two additional fire engines were deployed to support the ongoing operation. Once the situation was fully managed, authorities indicated that a comprehensive inspection of the premises would follow.
