Both museums will be located in the former Matthew Charalambides warehouses, a move that highlights the city’s commitment to preserving its heritage.
A Timeline for Transformation
Construction is scheduled to commence on October 1 and is expected to wrap up by the end of May 2026. Following the completion of the construction phase, the installation of exhibits will take place, promising an engaging experience for visitors.

The project, spearheaded by the Paphos municipality, aims to revitalise the urban environment while aiming to enhance cultural tourism. This initiative positions Paphos as a destination that offers more than just conventional tourism, inviting visitors to explore its rich cultural offerings.

Architect Andreas Vardas, who is responsible for the design and study of the museums, underscored the significance of restoring the historical buildings. He expressed the urgency of the project, noting that delays could have led to the demolition of these important structures.

In addition to the museums, the cultural upgrade project includes plans for new student hostels and four small hotels, which will add a total of 170 rooms to the city centre. There are also intentions to overhaul the Paphos shopping centre next year, further enhancing the urban experience.

The construction contract has been awarded to Agagrand Construction Limited following an open tender process. Civil engineer Savvas Georgiou articulated the vision for the museums as centres of knowledge, creativity, and cultural investment, emphasising their importance for future generations, including visitors, students, and researchers.
