The arrest, which took place on Saturday, adds to the growing list of individuals detained in this significant drug trafficking investigation. With this latest apprehension, the total number of suspects now in custody stands at five, including a 22-year-old man who was arrested on Friday but subsequently released after questioning revealed no evidence against him.

Drug shipment: Details of the Drug Seizure

The investigation began when customs officers at Limassol port, collaborating with the drug law enforcement unit (Ykan), identified suspicious items within a shipping container that had arrived from Thessaloniki, Greece. An X-ray scan on September 23 led to a thorough physical inspection.

During their search, officers uncovered 92 airtight nylon packages containing 97.36 kilogrammes of cannabis, alongside five packages holding 5.3 kilogrammes of cocaine. The drugs were cleverly concealed within inflatable toys, highlighting the lengths to which traffickers will go to evade detection.

Profiles of the Suspects

The four remaining suspects in custody, apart from the 30-year-old, are aged 61, 49, and 47. They are all expected to face remand hearings at the Limassol district court on Sunday morning. Police believe that these individuals are part of an organised drug-trafficking network operating within Cyprus. Investigators are continuing to pursue leads to identify further individuals involved in this operation.

Increasing Concerns Over Drug Trafficking

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about drug trafficking in Cyprus. The involvement of a large quantity of drugs suggests an extensive network that may be connected to wider criminal activities. Authorities are focused on dismantling such networks to safeguard the community.

With the investigation still ongoing, police urge anyone with information to come forward, as they work to piece together the full extent of this operation and prevent future incidents.
