A fire has broken out in a pile of rubbish near the Koshi Landfill, as confirmed by Fire Service spokesperson, Andreas Kettis. The blaze has attracted immediate attention, leading to the deployment of three fire engines from the Larnaca Fire Stations to the scene.
Officials from the Department of Environment have also been notified, and an officer is currently on-site to assess the situation. The Department of Forests is remaining vigilant, ready to respond if the fire threatens the nearby forest area, with three additional fire engines on standby.
In an effort to control the situation, the management of the Koshi Landfill is actively using excavators and lorries to cover the burning rubbish with soil. This process is anticipated to take several hours as they work to extinguish the flames and prevent any further spread.
