roadworks — The sixth-month roadworks phase to improve Prigkipos Karolos Avenue in Ayios Dometios is set to kick off at 11pm on Thursday, July 9, as announced by the municipality. This latest phase marks the fifth stage of a significant construction project aimed at enhancing the infrastructure in the area.
- As the project unfolds over the coming months, the local community is urged to stay informed about the ongoing changes and to plan their travel routes accordingly.
With a budget of €2.23 million, the project is co-funded through the EU’s 2021-2027 Cohesion Policy programme. It encompasses a range of improvements, including upgrades to the stormwater drainage system, new pavements equipped with street furniture, and the addition of cycling infrastructure.
As works commence, traffic management measures will be in place. Prigkipos Karolos Avenue will operate as a one-way street towards Ayios Dometios, allowing only westbound traffic. The municipality has advised that diversions will be clearly signposted on site to guide drivers.
During this phase, the section of Achaeon Street at its junction with Delphon Street will reopen to traffic, facilitating access for motorists in the vicinity. Access to the Nicosia Polyclinic will remain uninterrupted via the junction of Achaeon and Delphon streets.
In addition to road improvements, the project focuses on enhancing the local environment, with plans for more green spaces and tree planting to contribute positively to the area’s aesthetics and sustainability. Roadway reconstruction will also include the installation of new roadside parking bays, improvements to utility networks, and better street lighting, ensuring a safer and more user-friendly experience for residents and visitors alike.
As the project unfolds over the coming months, the local community is urged to stay informed about the ongoing changes and to plan their travel routes accordingly.
