  • cyprus-us ties — President Nikos Christodoulides met with a bipartisan delegation of US lawmakers on Saturday, focusing on the growing strategic relationship between Cyprus and the United States.

The meeting was held at the presidential palace and included prominent US representatives such as Nathaniel Moran, Jim Costa, Brendan Boyle, and Craig Goldman. This dialogue is part of the 91st Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue, which took place in Nicosia on June 19 and 20.

During discussions, both parties underscored the importance of enhancing the upgraded bilateral relationship within the framework of the strategic dialogue between the two nations. Christodoulides highlighted Cyprus’ commitment to deepening transatlantic ties, a key priority during the country’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.

“Discussions focused on Cyprus-US cooperation in the fields of energy, investment, defence, and security,” said deputy government spokesman Yiannis Antoniou. The two sides also reviewed critical issues, including the Cyprus problem and the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

The visiting lawmakers acknowledged the Republic of Cyprus’s role in promoting security and stability across the wider region. Following the meeting, President Christodoulides expressed on X that the discussions were a “great exchange” about the “strong and ever-growing Cyprus-US strategic relationship, the enduring importance of the transatlantic partnership, and developments in our region.”

The Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue serves as an interparliamentary meeting, typically held twice a year, facilitating collaboration between members of the European Parliament and the US Congress. This recent engagement marks a significant step in fostering closer ties and addressing pressing global issues collaboratively.
