The American Academy Larnaca STEM racing demonstrations aim to inspire primary school students across Cyprus. On 21 November 2025, teachers from the academy conducted an interactive demonstration at Aradippou D’ Primary School, showcasing the principles of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This initiative, in collaboration with the National Coordinator of the STEM Racing programme, previously known as F1 in Schools, received enthusiastic support from the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth.

Stem racing: Expanding Reach to Other Schools

Following the success at Aradippou, the academy has extended its reach by visiting four more primary schools: Drosia, Kamares, Kathari, and Dali B’ Primary Schools. Additionally, Kiti Primary School was welcomed to the academy’s premises to participate in the programme. These visits are part of a broader effort to engage young learners with STEM concepts in a hands-on manner.

Interactive Learning Experiences

The demonstrations allow students to delve into key concepts in physics, engineering, and aerodynamics through engaging activities. Emphasis is placed on exploring reaction time, a crucial element in both engineering and motorsport. This focus not only enhances students’ understanding of scientific principles but also connects these principles to real-world applications.

Hands-On Activities

One of the highlights of the demonstrations is the opportunity for students to race small compressed-air-powered cars. These cars can reach speeds of approximately 40 kilometres per hour, generating excitement and enthusiasm among participants. This practical activity not only entertains but also reinforces the scientific concepts being taught.

Commitment to STEM Education

This initiative is a testament to American Academy Larnaca’s long-standing commitment to promoting STEM education. By providing meaningful educational experiences, the academy aims to cultivate curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in students. The hands-on approach encourages students to engage with STEM subjects, which could lead to future academic and professional opportunities in engineering, technology, and innovation.

Positive Feedback from Participants

The feedback from students and teachers alike has been overwhelmingly positive. Many students expressed excitement about the practical applications of their learning, and teachers have noted an increased interest in STEM subjects following the demonstrations. This initiative not only enhances students’ knowledge but also fosters a love for learning and exploration.

Future Prospects

As the programme continues to evolve, the American Academy Larnaca is looking to expand its outreach further. Plans are underway to include more schools and potentially introduce new activities that align with STEM learning objectives. The goal remains to inspire a new generation of scientists and engineers who will contribute to the advancement of technology and innovation.
