  • pharmacy attack — A Limassol man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder connected to a violent incident at a pharmacy last year.

The Paphos permanent criminal court delivered the verdict on Tuesday against the 35-year-old, who was charged following an attack on April 14, 2022. During this incident, the defendant assaulted two pharmacists aged 33 and 24 at a pharmacy located in Chlorakas.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that both pharmacists were injured during the assault. The older pharmacist, aged 33, required hospitalisation at Paphos general hospital for her injuries. The younger pharmacist, aged 24, also sought medical attention but was discharged the same day after receiving treatment.

Following the attack, police swiftly apprehended the suspect. The case unfolded quickly, with the suspect voluntarily presenting himself to the Paphos criminal investigations department shortly after the incident. In a significant turn, he handed over the knife that was reportedly used in the attack.

The quick response from law enforcement facilitated a thorough investigation, ultimately leading to the trial and subsequent sentencing of the defendant. This case has highlighted concerns over safety in public spaces and the need for stringent measures to prevent such violent acts.
