Focusing on youth unemployment, Eurostat reports that 2.97 million young people under the age of 25 were unemployed in the EU in March 2026. This figure included 2.35 million from the euro area. The youth unemployment rate in the EU stood at 15.4 per cent, a slight increase from 15.3 per cent in February 2026. Meanwhile, the euro area maintained a youth unemployment rate of 14.9 per cent, unchanged from the previous month.
Gender Disparities in Unemployment

In the EU, the unemployment rate for women was recorded at 6.2 per cent in March 2026, consistent with February’s figures, while the rate for men decreased to 5.7 per cent from 5.8 per cent. Within the euro area, the unemployment rate for women was 6.5 per cent, with men at 6.0 per cent, both figures stable compared to the previous month.
Future Expectations
With ongoing improvements in both Cyprus and the wider EU, there are expectations that efforts to enhance job creation and workforce participation will continue. Experts suggest that targeted policies aimed at reducing unemployment, particularly among youth and women, may further contribute to positive trends in the labour market.
