Wizz Air has officially launched the Wizz Air Pilot Academy (WAPA) in Cyprus, creating an essential pathway for aspiring local pilots to receive structured training with the airline. This initiative marks a significant milestone, as candidates in Cyprus can now access airline-linked pilot training for the first time.
Wizz air: A Direct Route to Becoming a Pilot
The Wizz Air Pilot Academy offers a streamlined programme that enables participants to qualify as First Officers in approximately two years. Training is closely aligned with Wizz Air’s operational needs, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for a career with the airline.
Open Day for Interested Candidates
To celebrate the launch, Wizz Air is hosting an Open Day on January 25, from 16.00 to 20.00, at the Sunhall Hotel in Larnaca. This event provides an opportunity for potential candidates and their families to meet with Wizz Air representatives, who will offer insights into the application process and programme requirements.
Academy History and Training Structure
Established in 2017, the Wizz Air Pilot Academy has already trained over 185 pilots, with more than 90 students currently enrolled. The training process begins at Wizz Air’s partner flight school, Trener Kft, located in Nyíregyháza, Hungary. Following initial training, students progress to advanced and corporate training at one of Wizz Air’s operational bases, ensuring they receive comprehensive preparation for their roles.
Eligibility and Application Process
The programme is open to candidates aged 18 and above who possess a high school diploma, demonstrate proficiency in English, and have a solid understanding of mathematics and physics. Aspiring pilots can apply year-round through the Wizz Air careers website.
Affordable Training Model
WAPA operates under a financial model designed to make pilot training accessible to a wider audience. Participants start with a low initial fee, while the remaining costs are repaid through salary deductions over five years once they begin their employment with Wizz Air.
Commitment to Developing Future Pilots
Olivia Harangozo, Wizz Air’s Corporate Communication Manager, highlighted Cyprus as a strong base for ambitious candidates. She stated, “By making the program available locally, we are opening up a direct, airline-led path from the first application to the cockpit, supported by high-quality training and a clear employment perspective at Wizz Air.” This initiative aligns with the airline’s long-term commitment to nurturing a sustainable pipeline of future pilots in the region.
Supporting Young Professionals in Aviation
The launch of the academy in Cyprus aims to bolster career prospects for young professionals entering the aviation sector. Wizz Air is dedicated to supporting the next generation of pilots, expanding opportunities for those interested in a career in aviation.
Future Open Days Planned
For those unable to attend the upcoming Open Day in Larnaca, Wizz Air has confirmed that additional open days will be organised in the near future. This approach ensures that more aspiring pilots can learn about the opportunities available through the Wizz Air Pilot Academy.
As the aviation industry continues to recover and grow, programs like WAPA play a crucial role in developing skilled pilots who can meet the demands of the sector. The Wizz Air Pilot Academy not only provides training but also facilitates a clear pathway to employment, making it an attractive option for individuals looking to embark on a rewarding career in aviation.
