stolen motorbike — stolen motorbike — Investigators have uncovered new evidence linked to a planned crime in the case of the attempted murder of a well-known 47-year-old man on the morning of 31 July in the Dromolaxia Industrial Area. A motorbike was found in a National Guard depot in the Nicosia district within the last 24 hours, as reported by Ant1.
The depot was searched following information provided to police headquarters, leading to the discovery of the motorbike and additional evidence. Sources from Philenews indicate that the 22-year-old accused of the attempted murder had access to the depot, prompting police to investigate the possibility that he stole the keys. The motorbike was confirmed to have been stolen recently from Limassol.
Earlier today, the 22-year-old National Guard contract soldier was formally committed for trial before the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court, scheduled to sit on 13 January. He faces serious charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of explosives, theft, and receiving stolen property.
Evidence linking the accused to the crime scene includes a neck warmer, which fell from the perpetrator during the escape. Scientific analysis identified the 22-year-old’s DNA on the item. Additionally, police found videos on his mobile phone that appear to show him tracking the movements of the 47-year-old target after the assassination attempt.
The recorded videos reportedly contain locations where the target frequents, along with voice descriptions. Investigators are examining whether these videos were shared with anyone, as they continue to pursue leads to identify any mastermind behind the operation.
The accused was arrested on 17 November in a car park in Larnaca. During a search of his home, authorities discovered a 9mm pistol, ammunition, two human-shaped masks, and four mobile phones. While the pistol was not linked to any ongoing criminal activity, its presence raises further questions about the accused’s intentions.
The attempted murder occurred shortly after 11 am on 31 July, as the 47-year-old was cycling from the Dromolaxia Industrial Area towards the Krasa area. According to his statement to the police, he heard gunshots and saw a person on a scooter firing at him. The suspect abandoned the scooter and fled on foot, while the 47-year-old managed to escape uninjured.
