Vessel orders: Newbuild Vessels Set for Delivery
The Limassol-linked company, known for its dry bulk shipping services and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, has ordered two Chinese Kamsarmax class vessels, each with a deadweight tonnage of 82,500. The delivery dates for these new vessels are set for the third quarter of 2028 and the first quarter of 2029.
Commitment to Environmental Standards
These new vessels are a part of Safe Bulkers’ strategy to enhance environmental performance within its fleet. They are designed to meet the stringent Phase 3 requirements of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (IMO GHG – EEDI Phase 3), which focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, they comply with the latest NOx emissions regulations under NOx Tier III.
Advancements in Fuel Efficiency
The newbuilds are sister ships to existing vessels within the company’s fleet, which have been praised for their advanced energy efficiency. This means they will not only contribute to a cleaner environment but will also have reduced fuel consumption—a critical factor in today’s shipping industry.
Expansion of the Orderbook
With this latest agreement, Safe Bulkers has a total of eight newbuild vessels on order. This includes two vessels that are dual-fuel, capable of using methanol as an alternative energy source. The company is scheduled to receive four vessels in 2026, followed by two in 2027, one in 2028, and the final one in 2029.
