He indicated that the conflict appeared to stem from financial disputes between rival groups, with confrontations escalating into violence involving crowbars and other weapons.
According to Ioulianos, most of those involved are local residents, and he highlighted that some act as “employers,” supplying foreign labour to contractors. He expressed concerns over the management of foreign workers in the area, labelling the situation as a “slave market” where individuals register workers under their names and subsequently underpay them while sub-letting their services.
He explained that the employers involved primarily supply labour for construction projects, and the failure of some to honour financial agreements has led to the emergence of rival factions within the community.
