More than 300 Cypriots living abroad have registered on the ‘Minds in Cyprus’ platform, marking a significant milestone for the initiative in less than two weeks since its launch. This government initiative, which is part of a broader ‘brain gain’ strategy, has garnered attention and enthusiasm from the Cypriot diaspora.

According to a post from the president’s office on X, the platform aims to connect Cypriots overseas with job opportunities back home. “The government initiative ‘Minds in Cyprus’ launched within the framework of the ‘brain gain’ strategy, is already showing positive results,” the announcement stated.

The response has been encouraging, with registrations coming from Cypriots in 23 countries. This demonstrates a strong interest in returning to Cyprus for employment that aligns with their professional skills. In the words of the announcement, “In less than two weeks, more than 300 Cypriots from 23 countries registered on the platform to find jobs matching their profiles, demonstrating the momentum of the initiative.”

To further entice returnees, the government has introduced attractive tax incentives. The tax exemption on first employment income has been raised from 20 per cent to 25 per cent, while the exemption limit has increased significantly from €8,550 to €25,000 per year. These measures are designed to make the prospect of returning to Cyprus more appealing.

‘Minds in Cyprus’ was initially introduced in May as part of a strategic effort to attract talent in vital sectors such as science, technology, and finance. The platform was officially launched on August 26, providing job listings, personalised job opportunities, and comprehensive information for potential returnees. This initiative is also part of the preparations for Cyprus’s upcoming EU Council presidency in January 2026.

The website, accessible at www.mindsincyprus.com, aims to serve as a critical link between the government and the Cypriots abroad, facilitating their return and reintegration into the local workforce.
