According to police, the suspect was wanted for the possession of 3.22kg of cannabis with intent to supply. His arrest in Romania was executed under a European warrant.
The extradition took place early on Friday, with the suspect arriving in Cyprus and being taken into custody immediately. Authorities in Cyprus are taking the matter seriously, as the Larnaca district court has ordered that he remain in custody for six days to facilitate ongoing investigations.
The case itself dates back to February 1, 2024, when officers conducted a routine check on a vehicle in Larnaca. During this check, they discovered the cannabis hidden within the vehicle. This incident has not only led to the recent arrest but also to the previous conviction of three other men involved in the case.
Those men, aged 28, 40, and 51, were arrested prior to the extradition and have already faced the courts. They received prison sentences of five-and-a-half, four, and seven years respectively, reflecting the serious nature of drug offences in the region.
