embezzlement — Limassol police have arrested two individuals in separate cases involving embezzlement exceeding €338,000 from their respective employers. The first to be arrested is a 61-year-old woman, who had been employed as an accountant for a local firm.
According to a complaint made by the director of the company, the woman allegedly misappropriated a staggering €303,560 over a period from 2023 to 2025. Following the investigation, she was taken into custody and is expected to appear in front of the Limassol District Court for a remand hearing today.
In an unrelated case, a 26-year-old man who worked at a betting shop has also been arrested for theft by an employee. He is accused of embezzling €34,645 from the establishment. Like his older counterpart, the young man is due to face the same court shortly.
Authorities are actively pursuing investigations into both incidents, aiming to uncover further details surrounding the circumstances of the thefts. The significant amounts involved in these cases have raised concerns about internal controls within workplaces in the region.
The community is left shocked by these revelations, questioning how such breaches of trust could occur in local businesses. As the legal proceedings unfold, both the accountant and the betting shop clerk await their day in court, where more information may come to light regarding their respective cases.
