  • A 41-year-old man wanted for fraud has been extradited to Cyprus to face charges related to an online scam from 2021.
  • Authorities continue to pursue further investigations into the case, seeking to gather more evidence related to the fraudulent activities.

The arrest took place on Wednesday at Larnaca airport, following the suspect’s apprehension in a European country in April. The man was detained under a European arrest warrant issued by Cypriot authorities, as well as an international arrest warrant.

Upon his arrival, the suspect, who holds a European identity card, was handed over to local police and rearrested. This action follows an investigation sparked by a complaint lodged by a 71-year-old resident of the Famagusta district in December 2021.

The elderly complainant had ordered spare parts for his lorry from a company based in Europe in July 2021. During this transaction, the suspect presented himself as a representative of the company and deceptively requested that payment be directed to a different bank account than the one officially associated with the company.

Authorities continue to pursue further investigations into the case, seeking to gather more evidence related to the fraudulent activities.
