A large number of statements have been taken so far, with the process ongoing, police said. The FBI delegation was appointed to assist the special task force, police said, while results of forensic examinations of evidence by Europol experts are also awaited.
Police stated that their aim is to complete the investigation as soon as possible, reflecting the urgency surrounding these serious allegations.
The investigation was prompted by a social media post from Drousiotis, a writer and parliamentary candidate, titled “Paedophilia, sell-offs, surveillance and rigged trials.” In this post, he named judges, senior officials, and politicians, including former President Anastasiades. The post featured images purportedly showing text message exchanges between political and judicial figures and referenced ongoing investigations such as the surveillance van case, the Focus maritime investigation, and loan sale arrangements under Project Helix.
Central to the allegations is a woman identified as Sandy, whom Drousiotis claims is a key witness to an alleged organised network involving current and former officials, judges, and political figures. Former Supreme Court judge Michalakis Christodoulou has acknowledged knowing Sandy, stating that he met her between 2020 and 2021 and characterised his involvement as supportive. He has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.
Lawyer Nicos Clerides, who previously brought material related to the case to former Bar Association president Christos Clerides, urged that a police complaint be filed. However, this complaint was never made. All individuals named in the allegations have denied any wrongdoing, and the claims remain unverified.
