paphos hotel — The father of a three-year-old British boy who tragically died after falling from the fourth floor of a hotel in Chlorakas remains in custody. The case file has been returned to police by the Law Office, prompting further investigation into the incident.
According to Michalis Nicolaou, Assistant Police Director of Operations for Paphos, the file was sent back to investigators with specific instructions to complete necessary examinations. Nicolaou noted that police had submitted the file to the Law Office on Friday, as the bulk of the investigation had been completed, seeking guidance for the next steps in the case.
Currently, laboratory test results are still pending. The father has made a request through his lawyer for his immediate release from custody. Initial remand lasted eight days, during which he appeared without legal representation. Family members stated that psychological distress and time constraints prevented them from arranging a lawyer sooner.
The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon when the young boy, who was on holiday with his family, fell from the hotel’s fourth floor. Police are investigating the father for offences related to causing death through a reckless or dangerous act, neglecting his duties as the head of the family, and failing in his responsibilities as a caregiver.
An autopsy conducted by forensic pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou revealed that the cause of death was severe head trauma alongside multiple injuries resulting from the fall. The findings have raised significant concern regarding the safety protocols in place at the hotel.
Evripides Loizides, president of the Paphos Hotels Association, commented on the situation, stating that based on the evidence currently available, no liability has been identified on the part of the hotel concerning the tragic incident. As the investigation continues, the focus on safety measures in holiday accommodations is likely to intensify.
