  • police chase — Scenes straight out of an action movie unfolded in the early hours of Sunday in Limassol, where a police pursuit of a suspicious vehicle escalated dramatically.

The incident began on Keramopiou street when a police patrol spotted a car moving suspiciously with its lights off and at a low speed. Inside the vehicle were three individuals, and as the officers attempted to signal the driver to stop, he accelerated and fled the scene.

The chase took a dangerous turn as the driver ran two red lights on Gladstonos Avenue, where it intersects with Ayias Fylaxeos and Anexartisias streets, risking not only his own safety but that of other road users and the pursuing officers.

Ultimately, the high-speed pursuit ended in a dead end. The driver, however, was not finished yet. As two police officers approached the vehicle on foot, he suddenly sped up, driving directly towards them in a threatening manner. In response, one of the officers quickly drew his service pistol and fired two shots at the rear left tyre in an attempt to incapacitate the vehicle.

Despite the officer’s actions, the driver managed to escape in an unknown direction. Investigations into the incident are underway, conducted by the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Traffic Department. Authorities have confirmed that the registered owner of the vehicle is from the Famagusta district, but notably, the car is currently deregistered.
