The police have launched DigiPol, a new digital platform that allows members of the public to access a wide range of police services online. This initiative, which became operational on Thursday, enables citizens to utilise more than 30 police services through the gov.cy platform without the need for in-person visits to police stations or offices.

  • The DigiPol portal is poised to revolutionise how the public interacts with law enforcement, ensuring that citizens can access essential services more conveniently and efficiently than ever before.

Among the services available on DigiPol are applications for criminal record certificates, requests for police reports, and declarations related to lost identity cards. The introduction of this platform signifies a major shift in how police services are delivered, making them more accessible and user-friendly.

During a press conference to formally present the platform, deputy police chief Panikos Stavrou emphasised the convenience that DigiPol offers. “Members of the public can now utilise a range of services electronically without the need for a physical presence at police stations and offices in a simple, safe and effective manner,” he said.

Stavrou highlighted that users will be able to submit requests electronically and receive updates on the progress of their applications, creating a more transparent process. This innovation is expected to streamline police operations, allowing for a more efficient use of resources.

Chryso Angeli, head of the EU-funded projects unit and deputy director of the finance directorate, shared insights into the technical aspects of DigiPol. She explained that the first phase of the project focuses on providing non-urgent services to reduce the necessity of in-person visits. “This allows our members to focus even more on their main mission, which is the protection of citizens and the assurance of public safety,” Angeli remarked.

The development of DigiPol was made possible through funding from the EU’s Recovery and Resilience mechanism. Its creation involved collaboration between the University of Cyprus’ research centre (KIOS), the Cypriot technology company NETU, and several government ministries, showcasing a collective effort to enhance public service delivery.
