Cybersecurity and artificial intelligence readiness were at the forefront of discussions this week as European Affairs Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna represented the Council of the European Union at the European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg.
- In addition to her role in the plenary, Raouna is slated to attend the inaugural award ceremony of the European Order of Merit, which aims to recognise outstanding contributions across Europe.
The session, which runs from May 18 to 21, sees Raouna participating in her role under the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. A key focus of the talks is the pressing need to bolster cybersecurity measures and enhance the EU’s capacity to address emerging challenges posed by advanced artificial intelligence.
During her participation, Raouna is engaged in discussions about ‘EU Governance under pressure – Institutional responses to global challenges’. This theme reflects the ongoing evaluation of how EU institutions can adapt to rapidly changing technological and geopolitical landscapes.
In addition to her role in the plenary, Raouna is slated to attend the inaugural award ceremony of the European Order of Merit, which aims to recognise outstanding contributions across Europe.
Throughout her time in Strasbourg, Raouna will also hold a series of important bilateral meetings with influential European officials. These discussions will include dialogues with European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection Michael McGrath, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Cos, Renew Europe president Valerie Hayer, and Socialists and Democrats Group president Iratxe Garcia Perez.
