Enhancing Education in the Republic of Cyprus

As we approach the new academic year, the Education Minister Athena Michaelidou has outlined a clear vision for a more engaging and supportive educational system.
Focus on an Experiential Learning Environment
In her recent statements, Minister Michaelidou emphasised the government’s goal to create an experiential and interactive atmosphere in schools where students play active roles in their education. This initiative aims not only to enhance academic skills but also to shape students into conscientious members of society, equipped with strong morals and a sense of dignity.

- Social Integration Programmes: Expanded initiatives in nursery and primary schools will promote social integration, supporting a diverse student body in adapting to the educational environment.
Moreover, wider participation in improved Greek and mathematics lessons is being promoted to ensure all students reach their potential. A pilot project introducing a second nursery school teacher aims to focus on preventive measures and early diagnosis of learning difficulties, ensuring children receive the support they need promptly.
Transitioning from nursery to primary school can be a significant milestone for young children, and the Ministry has revised its guide to make this process smoother. Furthermore, access to counselling services will be improved, offering emotional and psychological support for students and their families. An exciting new addition will be the introduction of financial literacy lessons, equipping students with essential life skills.
