This remarkable event culminated in a significant gathering at the buffer zone, an area that symbolises both division and unity in Cyprus. One Greek Cypriot protester noted, “What makes it so special is that it is the only pride in the world that happens in a buffer zone.”

The festivities began around 6pm, with supporters assembling at Eleftheria Square in the south and Kugulu Park in the north. The two groups then marched towards the buffer zone, converging near the Home for Cooperation.
Among the attendees was a French protester who expressed their admiration for this particular pride event: “It’s my favourite of all three prides because it truly feels like a manifest of queerness, it doesn’t feel instrumentalised by political parties as I feel it is in the south.” This sentiment highlights the unique character of the bicommunal pride, which is organised collaboratively by queer activist groups from both sides of the island.
<pMany participants mentioned that they typically attend all three pride parades held in Cyprus each summer—one in the south, one in the north, and the bicommunal event that unites them all. With the bicommunal pride titled “United by Pride,” the event continues to foster a spirit of inclusivity and solidarity among the diverse communities in Cyprus.
