children s — children s — The mental health of children and youth remains an absolute priority for the health ministry, as Health Minister Damianos emphasised during the inauguration of the new building of the Cyprus ADHD association in Nicosia on Friday.

Minister Damianos underscored the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in transforming a child’s future. He stated, “We recognise that early diagnosis, proper intervention and systematic support can radically change the course of a child.” His remarks reflect a growing understanding of the unique challenges faced by children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

During his speech, Damianos highlighted that children and teenagers diagnosed with ADHD possess capabilities comparable to their peers; they simply navigate the world through a different lens. He called for societal acceptance and encouragement, asserting, “ADHD should not be a source of stigma or lead to exclusion.”

The new facility aims to bolster mental health services across the nation, creating a comprehensive care network tailored to the needs of both patients and their families. Damianos noted that the inauguration represents a significant step towards supporting vulnerable members of society, providing them with opportunities in a safe and accepting environment.

“It will not be just a building. It will be a living organism that will be nourished daily by the knowledge of experts, the love of parents and the inexhaustible energy of children,” he remarked, capturing the essence of the facility’s mission to offer a wide range of therapeutic, educational, and social services.
