Challenges at Dubai International Airport
The repatriation flights occur amidst significant disruption at Dubai International Airport (DXB), the world’s busiest international hub. On Saturday afternoon, operations were temporarily suspended due to an aerial interception incident. Reports indicate that debris from an intercepted drone or missile fell near airport terminals, leading to a loud explosion and visible smoke.
Despite assurances from Dubai authorities that the incident was “successfully contained” without any reported injuries, the fallout has resulted in thousands of passengers being stranded as major airlines, including Emirates, have cancelled flights and suspended services.
