Total deposits in December 2025 rose by €877.10 million, a notable increase compared to the €330.80 million rise recorded in November 2025. The CBC attributed this surge in deposits to seasonal factors.
Cyprus banks: Year-on-Year Changes in Deposits
The annual growth rate for total deposits stood at 6.50 per cent, slightly down from 6.70 per cent in November. The outstanding balance of total deposits reached €58.70 billion by the end of December.
Deposits from Cyprus residents increased significantly, with a net rise of €948.30 million for the month. Specifically, household deposits climbed by €622.30 million, while non-financial corporations contributed an increase of €51.20 million. Other domestic sectors also saw a combined rise of €274.80 million.
Growth in Loan Activity
In the same month, total loans recorded a net increase of €587.20 million, a substantial rise from the €71.50 million increase in November. The annual growth rate for loans improved to 10.70 per cent, up from 10.50 per cent the previous month. By December’s end, the outstanding balance of total loans reached €27.10 billion.
Loans to Cyprus residents also saw a significant increase, with an uptick of €250.50 million. This rise included an increase of €113.00 million in loans to households and €150.10 million in lending to non-financial corporations. However, loans to other domestic sectors recorded a minor decline of €12.60 million.
