The Larnaca District Court ordered the man’s detention after he was arrested at midday, facing accusations of attempted murder against a 40-year-old man and assault on his 46-year-old ex-wife. The police received an emergency call at 7:15 am from the woman, who reported that her ex-husband had forcibly entered her flat through the balcony door.

According to reports, the suspect swiftly moved to the kitchen, retrieved a cleaver, and launched a brutal attack on the victim, striking him in various parts of his body. In an attempt to escape, the 40-year-old fled through the balcony, but the assailant managed to catch up with him.
The attack escalated when the suspect turned his aggression towards his ex-wife, threatening her life. She managed to flee to the building’s car park, where police found her, while the attacker reportedly fled the scene.
The victim was urgently transported to Larnaca General Hospital, where medical staff discovered he had suffered a traumatic amputation of his left thumb, as well as partial amputations of his right thumb and index finger. In addition, he sustained multiple contusions on his hands, back, and head due to the violent nature of the assault.
Given the severity of his injuries, the 40-year-old was transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. The police believe the attack was motivated by personal jealousy, particularly following the suspect’s discovery of his ex-wife’s relationship with the victim.
Authorities are currently investigating multiple charges against the 33-year-old, including attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, carrying a knife, burglary, common assault, harassment, and threats. The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers of domestic violence and the severe consequences that can arise from jealousy and rage.
