The incident unfolded around 3.30 pm on Saturday, close to the Larnaca police headquarters. A 48-year-old Cypriot national, who has a history with law enforcement, was apprehended following the brawl, which involved individuals reportedly armed with axes, sticks, and a firearm that was discharged.
Despite the police’s immediate response, three foreign nationals aged 35, 26, and 20 remain at large. The police have been actively searching for these individuals, but as of now, they have yet to be located.
The 48-year-old suspect was remanded in custody for eight days after being treated for injuries sustained during the fight at Larnaca General Hospital. His remand procedure took place within the hospital premises due to the need for medical attention.
Police investigations have included searches of various locations in Larnaca, where officers discovered eight 9mm cartridges in an apartment occupied by three individuals aged 26, 28, and 29. Although these individuals were not among the primary suspects, they were arrested for illegal possession of explosive materials.
On Sunday morning, the three were presented before Larnaca district court. One was released after the court found insufficient evidence against him, while the police sought an eight-day remand for the remaining two. However, the court deemed this request unjustified, ultimately issuing a four-day remand order instead.
As the investigation continues, the police are exploring a range of serious offences linked to the suspects, including conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession and transportation of a firearm, extortion, and participation in a criminal organisation.
At the scene of the brawl, officers found two spent cartridge cases believed to be from a pistol, as well as bloodstains, indicating the violent nature of the altercation. The ongoing search for the three foreign nationals remains a priority for the police as they work to uncover the full scope of the incident.
