Limassol fires: Fire in Kivides
The first fire ignited in Kivides, specifically in the Ayios Akindynos area. It prompted an immediate response from six fire engines from Limassol city and district, along with two units from the Forestry Department and one from the British Bases.
The blaze consumed approximately one hectare of dry grass, wild vegetation, and trees, including pine and carob. In an effort to extinguish the flames, two firefighting aircraft were deployed to conduct water drops, showcasing a coordinated aerial and ground response.
Efforts Near Dora
Meanwhile, the second fire, located near Dora, presented challenges due to its inaccessible terrain. This fire also scorched around one hectare of dry grass and wild vegetation. A team of four fire trucks from Limassol district, supported by two units from the Forestry Department and 13 personnel, were dispatched to tackle this blaze.
As the situation progressed, the two firefighting aircraft successfully completed their final drops before returning to base. Ground crews continued to work diligently, focusing on securing the area and ensuring that the flames were fully extinguished.
Both fires served as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by wildfires, especially in regions characterised by dry vegetation. Fire teams remain on site to finalise operations and monitor the aftermath, ensuring that no flare-ups occur.
