Thirty new officers have officially joined the British bases (SBA) police after successfully completing a two-year probation period filled with rigorous training and assessments. This milestone was celebrated on Tuesday during a passing-out parade at the Officers’ Mess in Episkopi, attended by senior SBA officials and representatives from the Cyprus police.

Among the newly confirmed constables, there are 19 Greek Cypriots and 11 Turkish Cypriots who were recruited in 2023. The event marked a significant achievement in their careers, showcasing the culmination of their hard work, determination, and commitment to serving the community.

Deputy Divisional Commander at Dhekelia, Marcos Petrou, who oversaw the training, addressed the attendees, stating, “This ceremony marks the end of a demanding but rewarding journey.” He expressed pride in the new officers, commending their dedication, discipline, and integrity throughout their training.
Petrou further stated, “As they are now officially confirmed in rank, we congratulate them on this proud achievement and we look forward to their continued contribution in serving our communities with pride, respect and professionalism.”
Personal Reflections from New Officers
Among those taking the oath was PC Frixos Giannakou from Limassol, who shared his thoughts on the experience. He described the journey as “both a privilege and a challenge, professionally and personally.” Giannakou emphasised the importance of the skills and lessons learned, stating, “Equipped with valuable lessons and unique experiences, we are now ready to embark on our policing careers with professionalism and a strong commitment to the safety of our communities.”
Another new recruit, 39-year-old PC Virginia Daniela Erkurt from Pergamos village, highlighted the academic rigour of the training. She noted, “We grew gaining knowledge, something which will continue throughout our careers.” Erkurt expressed her pride in completing the probationary period, saying, “We step forward with a stronger sense of purpose and well equipped to serve our communities with fairness and dedication.”
Acknowledging the Support of Families
Erkurt also took a moment to reflect on the emotional aspect of the day, stating, “It is with great pride and gratitude that I mark the completion of the probationary period, and I am happy to share this during this passing out parade with our families and our police force family.”

SBA police chief Constable Steve Jupp expressed his pride in welcoming the new officers and the guests from the Cyprus police. He remarked, “It was an honour to welcome Cyprus police chief Themistos Arnaoutis to the passing-out parade, reflecting the strong partnership between our forces.” Jupp highlighted the significance of the new officers joining the SBA police, stating, “After two years of intensive training, these new officers join the SBA police ready to serve with professionalism, respect, and integrity.”
He concluded his remarks with confidence in their abilities, saying, “I’m incredibly proud of their progress and confident they will uphold our shared values in serving our communities.”

Chief Themistos Arnaoutis praised the event as a tangible demonstration of the excellent cooperation between the Cyprus police and the British Bases. He underscored the importance of their collaboration, stating that it goes beyond policing matters to ensure the safety of citizens. “This partnership reflects the commitment of both services to further strengthen the delivery of services to the society of Cyprus,” Arnaoutis added.
