- The tragic death of a 30-year-old Nigerian woman has prompted a serious investigation in Limassol, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding her untimely passing.
The woman was discovered dead in her apartment in Germasogeia on Sunday morning. Limassol CID (Criminal Investigation Department) is currently probing the case, with detectives not ruling out the possibility of a criminal act.
Initial reports indicate that the victim suffered facial injuries, which have led investigators to consider the death suspicious. Detective teams are awaiting autopsy results from state pathologists Angeliki Papetta and Orthodoxos Orthodoxou, which are expected to provide crucial insights into the cause of death.
Witness accounts from neighbours have revealed that loud shouting was heard emanating from the flat shared by the victim and three other women early on Sunday. These women, also Nigerian nationals, have been interviewed by police as part of the ongoing investigation.
According to local news sources, the group had been socialising at a bar before returning to their apartment around 5 AM. They had reportedly been living together in the flat for only four days. Authorities are also looking into their residency status in Cyprus, specifically whether they were in the country as tourists.
Assistant Police Director Lefteris Kyriakou addressed the situation, stating, “Around 11 AM, the Ambulance Service informed us that they had received a call and visited an apartment in the Potamós Germasógeias area, where they found a woman, aged about 30, unconscious and confirmed dead.” He emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Kyriakou noted that senior officers and members of the Limassol CID, along with other patrols, promptly arrived at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting further information from the pathologists regarding the woman’s injuries and the overall situation.
