According to the association of hospitality sector owners (Osika), the positive trend has been welcomed by business operators. Neophytos Thrasyvoulou, the association’s president, described the past two months as “encouraging” for the catering sector, with many business owners expressing satisfaction with the current level of activity.

Thrasyvoulou voiced optimism that this momentum could persist until at least mid-November. He stated, “What we are trying to achieve now is the implementation of new support programmes from the Labour Ministry to help employees stay in work through government support schemes.” This initiative aims to assist as many businesses as possible in remaining operational during the winter months.

The desire to extend the tourist season has long been a primary objective for the catering industry, as it not only stabilises businesses but also helps maintain employment levels beyond the peak summer period. Thrasyvoulou indicated that all recreation centres are currently open; however, many may soon close as the industry assesses the situation in early November before finalising plans for winter.

In addition to these developments, Thrasyvoulou highlighted a bill currently before Parliament that, if approved, would simplify the process for business owners to secure and renew their operating licences. This change would enable them to remain open for longer durations and adapt their operations according to demand.
