President Nikos Christodoulides received the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, at the presidential palace on Thursday, marking a significant step towards enhancing cooperation in fisheries management.

Kadis, who was accompanied by his team, expressed that the primary aim of his visit to Cyprus is to strengthen collaborative efforts and facilitate the exchange of ideas regarding the Commission’s ongoing initiatives.

During their meeting, Kadis provided the president with an update on various fisheries-related activities conducted during the visit. He highlighted the formation of a team of esteemed experts dedicated to addressing pertinent issues affecting member states of the European Union.

“We examine issues that concern all member states with great care, with the remaining members of the group being particularly sensitive and aware of issues that concern Cyprus,” Kadis remarked, underscoring the collaborative spirit that characterises EU efforts in fisheries management.

This meeting underscores the ongoing commitment of both Cyprus and the European Commission to work together on sustainable fisheries practices, which are crucial for the marine environment and the economy of coastal communities.
