A woman from Larnaca has become the first to express interest in joining the National Guard as a volunteer, according to defence officials. This initiative allows individuals to engage with the National Guard on a voluntary basis, with the process being entirely optional and non-binding.
Defence authorities have indicated that while the initial interest is promising, the actual numbers of volunteers remain uncertain. Some candidates may withdraw their applications while others may choose to apply later. The directorate of the National Guard, tasked with recruitment, is currently fielding numerous inquiries from potential volunteers seeking clarity on the application process.
The ministry of defence has positioned this initiative as a new project, starting from scratch. It is described as a pilot measure, meant to gather insights that could inform future recruitment strategies. Officials are optimistic that the level of interest will grow, especially among women, as awareness of the programme spreads.
Interested candidates can complete their applications electronically by sending them to the designated email address provided by the ministry. The deadline for submitting applications is set for October 24, and those who are successful will begin their training on October 30 and 31 at the Limassol recruit training centre.
