paphos marina — The Paphos marina project at Potima is gearing up for a long-awaited tender announcement, as the Deputy Ministry of Tourism prepares to attract investor interest. President of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, George Mais, indicated that the tender documents are expected to be posted in late August or early September, following delays attributed to necessary legal checks.
- “There will be a second and third appeal,” he stated, questioning whether government authorities have a coherent strategy to navigate the obstacles that are likely to persist.
Mais shared insights with the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), highlighting the importance of robust preparations for the joint ventures that will be evaluated. He emphasised that broader participation from investors would enhance the project, allowing the most suitable proposal to be selected.
This announcement comes after the tender was initially slated for June but faced postponements due to a review by the legal service. The anticipation surrounding the marina project underscores its significance to the local economy and tourism sector.
In addition to the marina developments, Mais also brought attention to ongoing infrastructure issues, particularly concerning the Paphos–Polis Chrysochous road. He noted that the delays have been exacerbated by an appeal from the construction company Aktor, which contested the loss of the contract.
Despite efforts from the public works department to mitigate potential cancellations, it appears that legal regulations surrounding public contracts have hindered progress. Mais pointed out that the presence of repeated appeals from contractors often complicates the timeline further, suggesting that even if the current issues are resolved, additional appeals could arise.
