apostolou leaves — apostolou leaves — Andreas Apostolou, a Member of Parliament for EDEK, has announced his departure from the party, citing a lack of opportunity for leadership roles as a key factor in his decision. In a heartfelt post, he expressed his discontent with the party’s recent decision that prevents him from running for any leadership position.

Apostolou explained that he was informed of this decision through a letter, which he received on May 3, 2025. He stated, “After four years of parliamentary cooperation with EDEK, I was informed of the Party’s decision that I am not allowed to run for any leadership position because, as stated in a relevant letter, I am an associate member from the Citizens’ Alliance and was elected as an MP in the context of the cooperation between the two parties in the 2021 parliamentary elections.”

This announcement has sparked discussion, particularly regarding the manner in which the decision was conveyed. Apostolou lamented the absence of prior discussion, stating, “The decision by EDEK to terminate our collaboration was not made by me. In fact, it was made without even discussing it with me. Therefore, I am not leaving; I was put out of the Party.”

In his post, he articulated feelings of unfairness, saying, “Undoubtedly, this decision is unfair and has upset me. I did not expect it, and I believe I do not deserve it.” Apostolou has chosen not to disclose the contents of the letter unless its authenticity is challenged, emphasising his commitment to principle.

Acknowledging his parliamentary journey, Apostolou reflected on his achievements within the party, highlighting the support he received from constituents. He noted, “EDEK elected an MP in the Larnaca District after 50 years. I contributed to keeping EDEK alive in the 2024 European elections, as I received almost 8,500 preference votes out of the 18,500 votes the Party received in total.”

Furthermore, he reaffirmed his commitment to his constituents, stating, “We continue our struggle even more strongly. For our Larnaca, our district, and our people. We continue to fight for a better quality of life for everyone.” His parting words resonated with hope and determination for the future, as he called on supporters to remain by his side.
