Support for gender equality in business is gaining traction, as the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Evel) and the Gender Equality Commissioner Josie Christodoulou met to discuss strategies for enhancing women’s participation in the business sector.
Gender equality: Collaboration for Inclusive Growth
The meeting took place on July 10, where Evel president Nakis Antoniou and Christodoulou exchanged views on fostering equal opportunities for women in entrepreneurship and decision-making roles. Both leaders acknowledged the importance of collaboration in advancing gender equality and creating a more inclusive modern workplace.
Focus on Women’s Empowerment
Topics discussed included initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in business and adopting practices that promote fair working environments. Evel emphasised the need for ongoing dialogue regarding persistent challenges that hinder equal economic participation.
Commitment to Equality
Antoniou reiterated Evel’s commitment to supporting gender equality initiatives and ensuring sustainable growth within the business community. He pointed out that collaboration between various institutions is crucial for developing actions that empower women and dismantle existing stereotypes and barriers.
Championing Equality Policies
Christodoulou expressed her satisfaction with the discussions, highlighting the significant role that business and professional organisations can play in promoting equality policies. “Business organisations can play a decisive role in promoting equality policies and shaping a culture of equal opportunities in workplaces,” she stated, underscoring the importance of these initiatives.
Looking Ahead
Both parties agreed that their cooperation could lead to impactful initiatives that strengthen gender equality, ensuring broader participation in Cyprus’ economic and social development. This meeting marks a significant step towards fostering an environment where women can thrive in the business landscape.
