Windcraft music: Community-Centric Opening Day
The festival kicks off with a community-focused day designed to encourage collective participation. Events include performances by the Windcraft Band and Windcraft Voices, alongside the lively ‘Postcards from my Homeland’ and a swing party featuring the Misharoz Band. Traditional music lovers can enjoy a fiesta led by Ta Takouria, while reduced admission prices on the opening day aim to draw in a wider audience, creating a special atmosphere for all.
A Diverse Musical Line-Up
Over the following two days, attendees can look forward to an exciting mix of genres. The festival’s international line-up boasts award-winning French saxophonist Sylvain Rifflet and New Zealand saxophonist Hayden Chisholm, among others. A highlight will be Christos Yerolatsitis’ ‘Daydreaming’ project, which features guest saxophonist David Lynch, promising a unique blend of jazz and global influences.
Celebrating Cypriot Talent
Cyprus’ own creative scene will be prominently featured with performances from the Ermis Michail Amped Quintet, Krúe, and Ogmios, who will present original compositions that push the boundaries of musical expression. Zoe Georgallis’ ‘Tip Tap Toe’ performance will cater to children and families, further enhancing the festival’s appeal.
Dynamic Closing Festivities
The festival will culminate in an explosive dance fiesta led by the Bojan Ristić Band and Federico Pascucci, filling the village with the energetic sounds of Balkan brass. Attendees can expect a grand finale featuring a mega jam session, where musicians from various participating bands come together for an electrifying musical exchange.
Innovative Artistic Collaborations
Another significant aspect of the Windcraft Music Fest is its artists’ residency programme, ‘Rites of Life: Beauty and Destruction.’ Supported by the European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA), this initiative pairs trumpet player Milad Khawam (Syria-Germany) with Cypriot performer Annie Khoury to co-create a new work, set to premiere during the festival.
A Multidimensional Experience
Beyond the music, the festival offers a rich array of workshops, exhibitions, and interactive activities for all ages. Visitors can participate in free workshops focusing on wind instruments, Balkan music, Italian tarantella, and jazz improvisation. The interactive installation ‘Shape the Sound’ invites attendees to transform sounds into laser images, while workshops on cyanotype technique and recycled paper making provide creative outlets for all.
Exploring the Enchanting Village
For those keen to delve deeper into Katydata’s charm, the festival includes immersive experiences such as the ‘Sounds of the Fountains’ exhibition, the installation ‘Stone Pulse,’ and the engaging treasure hunt, ‘Why, Bird, Don’t You Sing?’ These activities highlight the festival’s commitment to community engagement and cultural exploration.
In the heart of one of Cyprus’ most picturesque valleys, the Windcraft Music Fest promises a memorable celebration of music, culture, and community spirit, making Katydata a melting pot for creativity, diversity, and global sound.
