In a bid to resolve the situation, the resident was instructed to log in to his bank account through a different website provided by the scammer. Trusting the caller’s claims, he followed the instructions without hesitation.

Upon logging in, the victim unwittingly facilitated the scam, resulting in a staggering €47,406 being withdrawn from his account. It was only after noticing the missing funds that he realised he had fallen prey to online fraud.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, especially regarding unsolicited communications via phone calls, emails, or online messages from unknown parties that request personal or banking information. The police are actively investigating the incident, aiming to prevent further occurrences of such scams in the community.
