- larnaca capacity — Wizz Air is set to enhance its capacity from the Larnaca base with the addition of 57,500 extra seats in August and September, reflecting a robust surge in passenger demand.
The low-cost airline has decided to implement this increase ahead of schedule, demonstrating its dedication to the Cypriot market and facilitating a substantial expansion of its flight offerings. The new capacity will provide 24,500 additional seats in August and an extra 33,000 seats in September compared to previous plans.
Larnaca capacity: Strengthening Key Routes
This strategic move aims to bolster connectivity for travellers between Cyprus and major destinations across Europe and beyond. Wizz Air has pinpointed routes experiencing the highest demand for this increased capacity, including popular cities such as Athens, Barcelona, Bucharest, Tel Aviv, Kutaisi, and Iasi.
Among the notable changes, the airline will accelerate the resumption of its flights between Larnaca and Athens, which were initially set to restart later. The connection will resume on August 13, 2026, with a schedule of 10 weekly flights, increasing to 14 weekly services from September 23, 2026.
Expanding Connectivity Options
Additionally, flights from Larnaca to Barcelona will see an increase from three to four weekly services starting September 1, 2026. The frequency of flights connecting Larnaca with Bucharest Otopeni will also rise from five to seven times a week from that date.
The Larnaca-Tel Aviv route will benefit from boosted operations, increasing weekly flights from seven to 11 as of August 13, 2026. Wizz Air is also introducing additional frequencies for routes to Kutaisi and Iasi, further enhancing travel options for passengers.
A Commitment to Cyprus
Wizz Air’s decision to expand its flight programme stems from a confidence in the ongoing growth of Cyprus as a significant travel market, both for incoming and outgoing flights. The airline’s Network Officer East, András Szabó, shared insights on the company’s strategy, citing passenger demand that has exceeded initial forecasts.
“Cyprus is a very important market for Wizz Air where we put continuous emphasis on our operations and network development,” Szabó commented. He added, “Passenger demand has exceeded our initial forecasts, prompting us to bring forward the service of our Athens connection and strengthen our flight programme.”
Enhancing Travel Flexibility
The airline believes that by adding 57,500 additional seats and increasing frequencies on popular routes, it is providing customers with greater travel opportunities. This expansion is expected to aid connectivity, tourism, and economic growth in Cyprus, especially during the peak summer season and early autumn.
“By adding 57,500 additional seats and increasing frequencies on some of our most popular routes, we are providing our customers with even more travel opportunities while supporting connectivity, tourism and economic growth in Cyprus,” Szabó concluded.
