- The Paphos CID continues to investigate the link between the grenade explosion and the earlier arson attempt, as tensions mount in the area.
The incident occurred around 10:30 PM last night at the residence of a 74-year-old man and his 75-year-old wife, when neighbours reported a powerful blast that shattered windows and caused widespread concern.
Upon arrival, police cordoned off the area and began preliminary checks, quickly determining that the explosion had originated from a defensive military grenade found in the yard. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, although the blast broke four windows in the home.
As part of their investigation, authorities sent forensic teams to gather evidence from the scene. The police have since arrested a 59-year-old man from the nearby Ayia Marinouda community in connection with the explosion. This suspect is expected to appear before the district court tomorrow to face a remand order.
Interestingly, this is not the first incident involving the couple’s home. Just days before the explosion, on April 29th, there was an arson attempt when a fire was deliberately set to a gas cylinder outside their property, raising questions about the couple’s safety and the motives behind these violent acts.
