Limassol carnival: A Record-Breaking Cleanup Effort
Organised by the City Friends Club in collaboration with municipal services, this year’s cleanup was the largest in the organisation’s four-year history. Anna Gubareva, founder of the City Friends Club, expressed pride in the turnout, stating, “It has become the largest cleanup in our four-year history, showing that community spirit in our city continues to grow. We are especially proud that during the carnival, people chose not only to celebrate and have fun, but also to give back to the city.”

Sorting and Recycling
During the cleanup, volunteers focused on sorting specific waste streams, which included plastics, metals, drink cartons, and an astonishing 7 tonnes of spray waste alone. The initiative prioritised recycling, as the sorted materials were transported to state-licensed organisations for processing at recycling facilities abroad instead of being sent to landfill.
Municipal Support
After the volunteers completed their sorting, municipal services took over to clear the remaining waste, ensuring that the streets were left clean and tidy. The collaborative effort between the volunteers and local authorities reflects a growing commitment to environmental stewardship within the community.
Community Spirit in Action
This year’s carnival not only provided entertainment but also fostered a sense of responsibility among participants, illustrating how community engagement can lead to positive environmental impacts. The significant rise in volunteer numbers highlights a shift towards more proactive involvement in maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
