limassol car — limassol car — A 28-year-old man has been remanded in custody for six days following his arrest in connection with an arson attack on a car showroom in Limassol. The suspect appeared before Limassol District Court on Tuesday morning, where his lawyers did not object to the remand application by the Limassol CID.
The fire occurred on Sunday, 25 January, around 4:15 am, within the confines of the showroom. Investigators have confirmed that the blaze was deliberately set. The perpetrator reportedly broke a glass display case, doused the interior with flammable material, and ignited the fire.
As a result of the incident, two luxury vehicles were completely destroyed, with a combined value of €180,000. The damage extended to the premises, raising concerns among local businesses about security and safety.
Surveillance footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. CCTV cameras in the area captured a specific SUV arriving at the showroom just before the fire was set. The footage revealed that shortly after the arson, the vehicle’s daytime running lights were activated as the suspect fled the scene.
Investigators traced the SUV’s route towards Agia Fyla and through several mountain villages before arriving in Nicosia. At a petrol station in the Limassol district, another camera recorded a vehicle matching the SUV’s description heading towards the capital.
The Limassol CID focused their efforts on locating the SUV, which was eventually found parked outside a specific premises. Officers placed it under discreet surveillance until the suspect entered the vehicle, leading to his arrest on outstanding fine warrants.
Upon his arrest, the suspect stated that he had been driving the SUV for just one month. A check revealed that the vehicle belonged to a car trading company, raising further questions regarding its use.
A search of both the SUV and the suspect’s apartment uncovered seven mobile phones, two walkie-talkies, and a military cartridge of 7.62mm calibre, adding to the intrigue surrounding the case. Meanwhile, an arrest warrant has been issued for a second individual believed to be connected to the incident, who remains at large.
