The celebration set the stage with a cultural showcase that highlighted the artistic talents of both nations. Paintings by Chinese children, photographs by Cypriot artists, and displays of traditional Hanfu clothing and heritage artefacts captivated attendees, symbolising the fusion of Eastern and Western heritage.

Keynote speaker Xia Jie, chairman of the National People’s Congress Committee and president of CNIE, emphasised the vital role of mutual understanding and friendship in expanding international cooperation. He pointed to China’s growing contributions to the Cypriot economy, particularly in sectors such as energy and transportation.

In his address, Xia noted the increasing number of Cypriot cities that are joining the China-Cyprus sister city alliance, which serves to strengthen bilateral ties. He praised Cyprus for its commitment to multinationalism and its efforts to enhance cooperation with the European Union, further contributing to climate-friendly partnerships.

Chinese Ambassador Liu Yantao also spoke at the event, reflecting on the enduring emotional bonds between the two countries despite the geographical distance. He expressed optimism for more people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, envisioning a future where China and Cyprus grow closer both culturally and economically.

The ceremony culminated in the signing of several China–Cyprus Pragmatic Cooperation projects, encompassing technology, medicine, and the arts. By merging cultural performances with formal agreements, the event not only celebrated the blossoming friendship between the two nations but also laid the groundwork for substantive collaboration in various sectors.
