operational support — Cyprus seeks to offer operational support for United States President Donald Trump’s plan for the future of Gaza. This was confirmed by President Nikos Christodoulides during a dinner with European Union heads of government, as reported by presidential press office director Victor Papadopoulos.

During the gathering, which also included Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Christodoulides outlined his six-point plan for Cypriot involvement in the reconstruction and future of Gaza. The emphasis was on a practical contribution model, building upon the already established Amalthea plan, which serves as Cyprus’ humanitarian aid corridor to the region.

Papadopoulos highlighted that the Amalthea plan operates under a bilateral security mechanism, collaborating with the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). This partnership aims to ensure effective and secure aid delivery.

Earlier this month, Christodoulides attended a summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, discussing the future of Gaza. He expressed a desire for Cypriot companies to play a significant role in the area’s reconstruction. On his return, he referenced six initiatives that Cyprus could undertake in alignment with Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza.

Sources from the Cypriot government indicated that the specifics of the proposed six-point plan would be revealed as circumstances evolve alongside the implementation of Trump’s peace deal. They emphasised a commitment to supporting the full execution of the peace plan, stating, “Right now, our priority and our wish is for President Trump’s peace plan to be fully implemented and to be respected by all parties.”

While details remain under wraps, the initiatives are expected to focus on three key areas: security, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction. These proposals have been formally submitted to the European Union and the United Nations during the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, with copies distributed to other attendees.

The letter outlining how Cyprus can utilise its geographical position to contribute to Gaza’s future reiterates the island’s readiness to assist. “We are basically saying, ‘whatever help you may need, we are here to utilise our geographical position and the fact that we are accepted by both Israel and Palestine, and by the Arab states, to offer what we can to help’,” government sources stated.
