The European Researchers’ Night in Cyprus is set to take place on September 26, 2025, marking the nineteenth consecutive year the event has been celebrated on the island. This year’s theme, “Mission Possible – The sequel!”, aims to bridge the gap between science, research, and the public through an array of engaging activities.
The event will unfold at the State Fair in Nicosia, with doors open from 8.30 in the morning until 10 in the evening. This annual celebration is part of a larger initiative observed across 25 countries and over 460 cities in Europe, attracting more than 1.5 million visitors globally.
Organised by the Research and Innovation Foundation in collaboration with key research, innovation, and business stakeholders in Cyprus, the event is held under the auspices of President Nikos Christodoulides. The goal is to foster a culture of research, connect science with society, and showcase the contributions of universities, centres of excellence, and innovative companies based in Cyprus.
This year, activities will centre around the European Union’s five flagship missions addressing critical societal challenges. These missions include:
- Adaptation to climate change
- The fight against cancer
- The protection of oceans, seas, and waters
- The creation of climate-neutral and smart cities
- Safeguarding healthy soils and food
The event presents a unique opportunity for scientists, academics, researchers, and start-up founders to exhibit their projects and achievements to the public. Visitors can explore over 70 stands staffed by scientists, attend captivating presentations, and participate in interactive experiments that leverage technology, multimedia, and simulations.
In a remarkable twist, attendees will have the chance to engage with holograms of renowned scientists, both from the past and future. This innovative feature allows visitors to pose questions and receive answers in real time, enhancing the interactive experience.
Funding for the event comes from the European Commission as part of the project “Mission Possible: Researchers on Board for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future” (Contract No. 101160964).
