The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Works has announced significant roadwork on the Nicosia–Limassol, Nicosia–Larnaca, and Nicosia–Akaki highways. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and improve traffic flow along these critical routes.

  • During this period, one lane will be closed at a time, with temporary signage to guide motorists through the construction zones, ensuring a smooth traffic flow.
  • During these times, the left lane will be temporarily closed for about 100 metres, with traffic diverted to the right lane to maintain movement.
  • The entrance from Deneia to the highway towards Nicosia will be closed throughout the duration of this work.
  • Officials have acknowledged that while this roadwork may cause inconvenience, it is essential for the long-term improvement of the highways in question.

Roadwork: Work Schedule for Nicosia–Limassol Highway

Starting from Monday, September 1, 2025, horizontal marking works will take place on the Nicosia–Limassol highway (A1) between the GSP roundabout and Kalispera traffic lights. The work is scheduled for the night hours, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, and is expected to be completed by Thursday, September 4, 2025.

During this period, one lane will be closed at a time, with temporary signage to guide motorists through the construction zones, ensuring a smooth traffic flow.

Signage Adjustments on Nicosia–Larnaca Highway

On the Nicosia–Larnaca highway, work will commence on Monday, September 1, 2025, and again on September 8, 2025, between 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM. The focus will be on the section from the junction with the Nicosia–Limassol highway to the Rizelia roundabout.

During these times, the left lane will be temporarily closed for about 100 metres, with traffic diverted to the right lane to maintain movement.

Repaving Efforts on Nicosia–Akaki Highway

On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, and Thursday, September 4, 2025, the Nicosia–Akaki highway will undergo repaving work. This work will take place at night from 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM, specifically from the exit of Deneia to the Akaki roundabout.

Traffic from Nicosia to Astromeritis will be redirected through the Kokkinotrimithia interchange, then along Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue. Conversely, vehicles travelling from Astromeritis to Nicosia will also be rerouted via the Akaki roundabout to Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue.

The entrance from Deneia to the highway towards Nicosia will be closed throughout the duration of this work.

Traffic Management and Public Cooperation

The Department of Public Works has emphasised that appropriate temporary signage will be in place during all construction activities to facilitate the flow of traffic. They have also expressed their gratitude for the public’s understanding and compliance with the temporary road signs and police instructions.

Officials have acknowledged that while this roadwork may cause inconvenience, it is essential for the long-term improvement of the highways in question.
